The Weather Station Globe

The Weather Station Globe

We recently added a really cool new world globe to our line-up, called the Weather Station Globe.

What's unique about this world globe is that it contains the three classic weather instrument within it's beautiful cherry-finished wood base:  Thermometer, Barometer and Hydrometer.

We believe this represents the natural marriage between cartography and meteorology.  In the early days of map-making, cartographers relied on bold explorers who battled the elements to report back on new lands previously unknown to the Western world.  These explorers, like James Cook and Magellen, were constantly threatened by the natural forces of the earth as they relentlessly pushed on, leaving the known world behind.

Many expeditions succumbed to the elements, like Shackleton's ice-bound winter.  It is only appropriate to associate the basic meteorological measurements with a world globe.

We find that those of us who have a fascination with geography and cartography are also often weather buffs.  There is a connection between the interest in distant places and the natural forces that shape them.  This is why The Weather Station Globe is so interesting.  It brings together the result of natural forces with the instruments that measure some of those forces.

The Weather Station Globe is a great gift for anyone who is fascinated with the natural forces of our world.
