The white lights represent the emission of electricity. This depicts the contrast of electricity use between the wealthy nations and the developing nations. The most stunning illustration of this contrast is the difference between North and South Korea, the South being brightly lit while the North is almost completely in the dark.
The yellow lights depict fires! That's right, fires.
The red glowing lights illustrate the deliberate burn-off of natural gas.
The blue lights on the oceans show night fishermen fishing for squid with the use of bright lights to attract the animals.
